From Nuwara Eliya, take the Udupusellawa Road and turn at Boralanda Junction.

Lover's leap waterfall (4 - 5 Km)

Prepare to be mesmerised by the beauty of Lover's Leap Waterfall, situated within close proximity to Nuwara Eliya. Capture stunning photographs, soak in the serene atmosphere, and embrace the natural splendour of this hidden gem. You can through Boralanda via Udupussellawa Road. It is difficult in cars and vans. You can there easily by bike, or you can rent a three wheel from there with the cost of 4-5 US$. You can go there by lady Lady McClums drive Nuwara Eliya, but it is difficult to reach to the top of of the location.

Galway's Land National Park (3 - 4 Km)

Nature lovers should not miss the opportunity to explore Galway's Land National Park. This pristine park offers scenic walking trails through dense forests, tranquil lakes, and vibrant flower gardens. Need to pay for a entrance ticket which cost around 1 US$. It is very dark in the forest during the rainy season, so not to take children on those days is a good choice. This is a safe place, you don't need to be afraid, you can go there by any vehicle.

Hakgala Botanical Garden (9 - 10 Km)

Hakgala Botanical Gardens is a paradise for plant enthusiasts. Should not miss the chance to explore the famous Rock Garden and the tranquil Japanese Garden within the premises.

Gregory Lake (1-2 Km)

Moon Plains (5 - 6 Km)

Situated a short distance from Nuwara Eliya Gregory Lake. Moon Plains is a breathtaking nature reserve that offers panoramic vistas and exhilarating outdoor activities. You can go inside only in a safari jeep & they charge around 15 US$. This is a seed potato farm. However the facilities are not good enough.

Seetha Amman Temple (9 - 10 Km)

Visit the Seetha Amman Temple, an important Hindu religious site located in the vicinity of Nuwara Eliya. According to Hindu mythology, this temple holds significance as the place where the Hindu epic Ramayana states that Seetha, the wife of Lord Rama, was held captive. 

Ambewela Farms (14 - 15 Km)

Experience the charm of rural life at Ambewela Farm, a sprawling dairy farm near Nuwara Eliya. Take a guided tour to witness the dairy operations, interact with farm animals, and learn about the milk production process. Enjoy the fresh country air and embrace the serene ambience of this picturesque farm. 

New Zealand Farms (18 - 19 Km)

Established in 1960 with the collaboration of the New Zealand government which is currently managed by Ambewela Dairies PLC.

Have you ever seen a cow twice the size of its Sri Lankan counterparts? New Zealand Farm is home to Ayrshire and Friesian breeds, known for their impressive stature and exceptional milk production. Get up close with these gentle giants, learn about their care, and witness firsthand the dedication that goes into producing fresh, nutritious milk.

Explore the sprawling 1500-acre property. Lush greenery, rolling hills, and fresh air provide a welcome respite, offering a chance to spot local birds and wildlife.

A nominal fee of 250 Sri Lankan rupees (approximately 1 USD) allows you to explore the farm. Ample parking is available on location, making it convenient to arrive by car.

After your exploration, don't miss the on-site food outlet. Here, you can indulge in a variety of fresh products made with the farm's own milk, offering a delicious way to end your visit.

Nuwara Eliya Golf Course (250 m)

Visitors who enjoy sports should definitely check out the Nuwara Eliya Golf Course. Known as one of the oldest golf courses in Sri Lanka, it offers a picturesque setting amidst rolling hills and lush greenery. Enjoy a round of golf, marvel at the scenic views, and appreciate the serene atmosphere of this prestigious golfing destination.

Nuwara Eliya Post Office (50 m)

Pay a visit to the charming Nuwara Eliya Post Office, a historic building that reflects the town's colonial past. Admire the architectural beauty of this landmark, which features a distinctive British colonial style. Send postcards or collect unique stamps as a memento of your visit to this iconic post office. 

Single Tree Hill (4 - 5 Km)

Swarnagiri Chetiya temple is located on the top of this hill. It is a very beautiful place located near by the town. You can even see Samanala Mountain (Sripadaya Mountain). All vehicles are able to reach until the temple sees, except for big buses. if it is a 4x4 vehicle, you can go further up to near the tower.

Nuwara Eliya Racecourse (300 m)

Experience the thrill of horse racing at the Nuwara Eliya Racecourse, a historic venue that dates back to the colonial era. If you visit during the racing season (typically held from April to August), you can witness the excitement of horse racing amidst the picturesque surroundings. Even outside the racing season, the racecourse is a charming place for a leisurely walk and to soak in the colonial ambience. 

Shanthipura Village (4 - 5 Km)

The highest village in Sri Lanka, located in Nuwara Eliya city limits. Immerse yourself in the serene ambience, interact with the friendly villagers and experience the rural way of life.

There is a view point also. You need to buy a ticket & it is about 5 km from Nuwara Eliya. You can go there by bus, car, van or any small bus.

Holy Trinity Church (1 - 2 Km)

It has a very old piano in working condition.

Piduruthalagala Mountain (7 - 8 Km)

It is about 8280 feet height. It's open for travellers since 2012. Entrance allows only for Car, Van & SUV. Small buses are not allowed as there is a climb of 2100 feet per 6 Km. Only go if the vehicle is suitable. Around 5 US$ will be charged for the vehicle. About 15 vehicles are sent at a time & be sure to take your ID with you. There is a small temple at the top. It was not allowed to go before, now it is allowed to go there. This is the highest place a man can go in Sri Lanka & there is a stone placed there to mark the location. There are eight towers here such as  Air Force radar, communication Towers, Radar for Sri Lankan air lines, Army Navy radar and Communication Towers, Rapavahini Tower, CSN Tower (currently inactive) along with Sri Lanka forces.

St. Francis Xavier's Church (4 - 5 Km)

Visit the historic St. Xavier's Church, a beautiful place of worship in Nuwara Eliya. This Roman Catholic church features stunning architecture and intricate stained glass windows. Step inside to experience a moment of peace and reflection or attend a Sunday Mass to witness the vibrant religious community. 

Kande Ela Reservoir (Meepilimana) (8 - 9 Km)

Experience the tranquillity of the Kande Ela Reservoir. This scenic reservoir offers a serene atmosphere and picturesque surroundings. This is an ideal place to have a bath, but not possible to use soap. 

If you want, there are facilities where you can take a beer while having a boat ride. It is a famous place on the way to Horton Plains. The boat ride would be categorised as 30 minutes which will be cost around 10 US$. The complete tour will take nearly 7 to 8 hours.

Boburu Ella (18 - 20 Km)

It's a beautiful place where you could have to walk about 2 km of distance after you get off the vehicle or bus. As I guess, camping is not allowed here due to the irresponsible behaviours of locals. The water level is fairly high after a rainstorm, so better to behave in caution.

When you come to Nuwara Eliya, don't looking to stay in the hotels. You won't sweat even if you walk around the entire city. If you get any chance to visit the Bank of Ceylon or Hatton National Bank premises, you will see the flowers grown in the location is how beautiful, even in the city limits.

Take the train ride from Nanuoya to Haputhale to embrace the beauty in the hill country of Ceylon.

If you want to see more beautiful places, when coming via Kandy, come from Padiyapalella road instead of going through Gampola. The biggest climb of the road is there. The road will move you through High-forest Brook-side where most 

Let me tell you about the climate.The old people of Nuwara Eliya say that in 1984 and 1998 there was freezing temperature in Nuwara Eliya in January. In 1984 there were places with temperatures down to minus 2 Celsius and in 1998 zero Celsius. In 2011 too, there was a bitter cold that dropped to 1 Celsius. According to Wikipedia, the lowest temperature in Nuwara Eliya in the last century is minus 2.6.

From March to April - The hottest time is 24C in Nuwara Eliya and sometimes it can rain during the day and evening for about two hours, and around 15 C at night.

May, June &July - This is the windy season in Nuwara Eliya. It rains all the time. Sometimes it rains for three days continuously. The temperature is between 18-10 C. Sometimes it gets very cold. Year 2018, the cold was so much that the heaters were put on. The temperature dropped to AC

From August, September to October - This is the time when the rain is decreasing, but sometimes, even if it is sunny, it rains intermittently. The wind is less. A good time to walk in Nuwara Eliya.

From November, December to January - the rain will decrease. The cold will start in mid of December between 15-8 degrees Celsius, which in 2016 decreased to 3 degrees Celsius. It's bone piercingly cold until mid of January.

The climate of Nuwara Eliya changes based on the season of the year as well as the location you are staying in Nuwara Eliya. When it is 12 C in the town, it is about 2 km away at the foot of Pidurutalagala, and it is about 10 C, Kadapola Ambewela Pattipola is colder than Nuwara Eliya. Toppas, Magasthota and Kalukele are the most foggy areas in Nuwara Eliya. Hawaeliya is the least foggy.
